Bathampton Morris Men

Squire: Paul Gilman

Squire-elect: David Grist

Weather Report

Wednesday's snowfall does not seem to have settled so this week's practice (Thursday 21/1/10) is scheduled to go ahead, however it will take place in the Village Hall (next to the bowling green) rather than in the Church Hall as normal. This is just a temporary change for this week.

Watch this space for further information.

Our Christmas Mumming tour of Bradford on Avon was very enjoyable and we raised over £190, which has been donated to Guide Dogs for the Blind. Thanks to all who supported us.

The Bathampton Ring Meeting

Friday September 4th to Sunday September 6th, 2009

The Squires of Bathampton and the Morris Ring along with the Mayor and Mayoress

2009 was the 75th anniversary of both The Morris Ring and Bathampton Morris Men. As the culmination of a summer of events to celebrate both anniversaries, Bathampton Morris Men hosted a Ring Meeting on the first weekend of September based in the beautiful Georgian city of Bath.

Dance tours were arranged to visit many of the historic venues in the city, following in the footsteps of its famous inhabitants such as Jane Austen, Beau Nash, William Herschel and Ralph Allen. Naturally, we also visited some of Bath's fine traditional hostelries to enjoy the local ales and Zummerzet zider.

Full information about the Ring Meeting can be found here.

Celebrating 75 Years of Dancing

BANES Civic Reception

Bathampton Morris Men kicked off their Diamond Jubilee year of dancing in and around Bath with a reception in April, hosted by Councillor David Bellotti, Chair of Bath and North East Somerset Council. The year culminated with a Ring Meeting attended by The Right Worshipful The Mayor of Bath, Councillor Colin Barrett.

Founded 75 years ago by local teacher, Mrs Charlotte Oakey, in the village school, Bathampton Morris Men celebrated their Diamond Jubilee with a full programme of dancing throughout the summer.

2009 was also the 75th Anniversary of The Morris Ring, the first national umbrella organisation of Morris dancers. The highlight of Diamond Jubilee celebrations of both organisations was a dance event on the weekend of September 4th to 6th where 140 Morris dancers from all over the country, and some from abroad, danced in many locations in Bath. The guest of honour at the event was the Mayor of Bath, Councillor Colin Barrett.
